BATISOLID inspiration

The inspiration behind BATISOLID is rooted in the urgent need to address environmental and technical challenges in road infrastructure construction. In a world where eco-sustainable development and optimization of material resources are imperative.

The team behind BATISOLID was dedicated to finding innovative solutions that could address these challenges efficiently and effectively. The starting point of this search for creative solutions dates back to events such as the XVI Road Conference, which focused on "Recycling and Stabilization of Road Surfaces with Emulsions, Lime and Cement"—held in Gran Canaria in April 2010—. These conferences, promoted by the Spanish Road Association, served as a crucial space to discover and explore new techniques and materials for road construction, including everything from the use of waste to the recovery and reuse of materials.

The event and its participants contributed information and a favourable scenario for discovering the various techniques and approaches to addressing the growing problem of the demand for materials and the increase in waste generation in the construction industry in eco-friendly territories—sensitive as the island territories are.

The event and the regulatory framework established by Royal Decree 105/2008 on the management of construction and demolition waste acted as catalysts for the research and development of BATISOLID. The need to find sustainable and efficient alternatives in road infrastructure construction prompted the BATISOLID team to work tirelessly to create innovative solutions that could mitigate the environmental impact and improve the quality of life of people and the ecosystems that support it.

Since its conception in 2013, BATISOLID's development process has been financed exclusively with its resources, without external help or subsidy. This financial commitment demonstrates the dedication and determination of the BATISOLID team in its quest to offer sustainable solutions in the construction of road infrastructure.

The valuable and inspiring perspective we discovered prompted us to design the strategies and technological practices necessary to implement technological innovation, such as the use of the concept of a new material, "the BATISTÉN", a new manufacturing technique, "the BATISTEADO," and an accurate and efficient circular economy practice.

The topics addressed at the event inspired us to develop an approach focused on the exclusive use of extracted soils, natural or not, to carry out construction works of roads, pavements and platforms, seeking the "bioreversibility of infrastructures", which turns them into infrastructures without or with less planned obsolescence. This involved adopting reuse practices through the treatment of soil materials to be processed and the waste generated from manufactured soil materials, developing techniques for meticulous analysis of materials and developing efficient methods in their treatment, processing and reuse, all "in-situ".

In addition, it allowed us to train and raise awareness among our team about the importance of eco-sustainability or environmental sustainability in the construction of road infrastructure.

Thanks to these strategies and the technological innovation implemented, which has become the only patent in Europe, we are committed to maximizing the use of local natural resources "in situ", reducing dependence on external materials and contributing to sustainable development in the construction operations of roads, pavements and platforms for people and vehicles.
